Countdown of student associations on strike here
Considering that indigenous knowledge and scientific studies are clear: the ecological situation is catastrophic, but it is still possible to initiate social changes that will make it possible to limit the effects of climate change;
Considering that the Canadian state is a major player in the current ecological crisis, as it continues to finance oil and gas projects on unceded aboriginal territory, notably on Wet'suwet'en territory in so-called British Columbia, and hosts the headquarters of over 75% of the world's mining companies due to the tax advantages it offers them;
Considering that the Quebec government is funding a totally inadequate ecological transition designed for the rich, in addition to pushing people into precariousness with anti-immigration positions and bills such as the ban on lease transfers;
Considering that it is marginalized populations, including indigenous people, people living in the Global South, racialized people, low-income people and migrants who are most affected by climate change, despite having little responsibility for the current crisis, and that it is impossible to tackle the climate crisis without condemning these many social injustices at the same time;
Considering the need to stop waiting for governments to act, and get organized to implement solutions ourselves;
Considering that fatalism in the face of climate change only benefits governments, landlords and corporations that exploit people and destroy ecosystems, and rather than despair we choose to nurture anger towards our enemies and love towards our communities;
Considering that in an escalation of pressure tactics, the anti-capitalist and environmentalist Climate Rage coalition has issued a call to strike for Climate Rage Week, which will take place from September 25 to 29, 2023;
Considering the events organized by Climate Rage during Climate Rage Week, namely the workshops held on September 25, 26 and throughout the week, the teach-in on September 27, and the demonstrations on September 28 at 5pm and September 29 at 2pm;
Considering that this week provides an opportunity to organize popular education actions and events within our educational institutions and communities, as well as to bring openly anti-capitalist environmentalism into the public debate;
Considering that [X] student associations have already voted for strike days during Climate Rage Week;
The members of [name of student association] propose :
1. That [name of student association] join Climate Rage Week and hold a week-long strike from September 25 to 29 inclusively, in order to escalate the pressure;
