The following is a call to be widely distributed to and adopted by community groups.
The situation we are facing is dramatic and the inadequacy of the actions being taken by governments is obvious to us all. No matter whether our groups, organizations, NGOs or associations choose to support or oppose the actions of these conferences, we can easily agree on the extent of the work to be done. However, the COP15 in Montreal in December is likely to crystallize important points of disagreement on how to proceed with these kinds of international summits.
We do not want this conference on biodiversity to be an opportunity for the environmental movement to engage in fratricide. That is why we are launching this appeal which we invite all progressive and environmentalist organizations to sign. We believe that the main principle is respect for a diversity of tactics. We all have different ideologies and modes of struggle, and we sometimes disagree with the methods of other groups. However, putting our efforts into attacking or denouncing fellow environmentalists only weakens and discredits us. We don't need to approve of and support everything everyone is doing, we just need to refrain from participating in the narrative of the media and the police.
The following organizations refuse to denounce the actions of their comrades and commit to showing solidarity in the face of repression:
La coalition anticapitaliste et écologiste contre la COP15
